Evaluation- Question 1

Evaluation Questions

Now that I have finished my music video and my ancillary, I now need to do my evaluation by answering these evaluation questions:

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?

4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation
stages?



I have to also consider the creativity when answering these questions as it has to be 'media rich'- meaning lots of pictures. I have thought of using Final Cut Express, Prezi and Stupeflix where I can create different videos and presentations where I can include lots of pictures.

I have now started my evaluation questions starting with the 1st question, a video made in Final Cut Express. I then plan to answer the 2nd and 3rd question using Prezi powerpoints, another creative way of presenting my answers. For the last question, I am going to use Stupeflix video as I have seen it being used and found it a really exciting video to create. When I have finished answering all my questions, I am then going to upload all the presentations and videos I created onto my blog.

Burning my music video and ancillary tasks on DVD using iDVD

Today, I burnt my music video and ancillary tasks on DVD using the iDVD. I first had to export my music video using Quicktime so that I can burn it on DVD. I then opened iDVD and chose a more creative theme so that when you play it, it would look more presentable and professional. I then dragged my music video in and renamed it 'Play Music Video' so it was more realistic like real DVDs. I then added a slideshow to show each of my ancillary tasks. When I was happy with it, I put my DVD in and burnt it. I now need to print my Digipak so that it can go in the case and also to print details on the DVD to make it look realistic and profesionnal

Finishing my music video- adding music channel logo and name of artist and song

Now that I have finished editing my music video, all that I have left to do was to add the logo of my chosen music channel and also add my artist's name and the song name on the bottom of the left corner.

As my music channel is 4music, I added their logoat the top right corner where it is usually seen on TV. I have watched their music channel so I know where the logo goes.

I then added my artist's name and song name at the bottom left corner as this is where it appears on TV. I made the text as a typewriter, to make it more interesting and more creative looking.

I have now officially finished my music video, I now need to burn the music video and my ancillary tasks on DVD.

Changing the contrast of each shots of my video

I decided to change the contrast of my video to make it look more eye-catching and appealing so that it looks more interesting and creative. It was quite time-consuming as I had to do each shot one by one but the effect was really striking. I really like the contrast as it draws you eye into the video and make my actress stand out, helping to promote my artist's image as the video looks more quirky. I also refined my music video more adding more transitions such as the cross dissolve effect to make my video look more sophisticated and interesting.

Editing the last footage filmed

I have now finished editing my music video using the footage of my last filming. I have done this editing after school today so that I would have more time to edit.

Near the ending of the video, I used this shot of Ellie walking towards the camera and lip syncing. It was quite difficult to film as I had to get the song on at the right time when she lip syncs. The lyrics that she lip syncs are, 'just enjoy the show', for this part, I decided to speed up her walking and then have her looking at the camera lip synicng. It was quite hard to edit as I had to get it right so that her lip syncing matched the lyrics of teh song. I first cut the part where she lip syncs and edit it to the right point and then altered the speed of the walking this made it easier and also added more creativity to the video.

This side shot that I filmed would be used for the lyrics of 'dum de dum' near the end of the video. Here in this shot she is lip syncing which makes the video more intersting due to the shot being more framed and creative.

This shot was used in the last chorus of the video where the lyrics were 'I'm so scared, that I don't show it.' I had Ellie walk away from the camera and lip synicng which was quite interesting as the shot was framed well.

I now need to refine my music video, adding transitions and maybe some more shots over the top.

Finishing my Music Magazine Advertisement

I have now finished my music magazine advertisement and this is the finish look of the advertisement:

The thing that I only need to do was to add the photo of Ellie onto the magazine advertisement as when I last left it, I added all the details and the picture of my CD Digipak.

I first chose this photo that I took of Ellie as I feel as though it would fit better on the advertisement but also that the photo is more focused on the facial expression of Ellie. This would help make the advertisement more intriguing and interesting.

I then used the 'lasso tool' to cut Ellie from the background and feathered it before cutting it out. This gave the image of Ellie a smoother look and edge so that it would help give my advertisement a more professional look.

I then placed the image of Ellie onto the advertisement, resizing it so that it fits and looks creative and interesting. I also like how the petals comes across the picture of Ellie as it makes it more quirky and more eye-catching.

I then tried different effects to make the picture look more striking and interesting. I came across the effect of 'fresco' and really liked the effect. The thing that I like about the effect is the contrast as the darkness from the effect against the bright, vivid colour of the yellow in the advertisement, makes it stand out more and looks more striking.

I then changed the brightness of the picture so that it fits more with the advertisement to match with bright and vivid colour in the background of the advertisement.

I then changed the shape of the text of the reviews so that it looks more intersting and makes the advertisment more eye-catching.

Overall, I am really happy with the finish product of the music magazine advertisement as it is really bright and appealing like the look of the CD Digipak I created. It also links both of the products together as they are both quite similar which would help with the promotional aspect but also promotiong the artist's quirky image. I really like the style that I created with both the CD Digipak and the magazine advertisement as it is really bright and creative but also would link to my music video as it is also that fun and quirky look that runs through all my media products.

Last filming

Today, I have now finished filming for my music video at the park and can now finish all my editing in school to complete the video. The parts that I had left to film today was the beginning of the video, near the end and also little bits for the second verse and the last chorus. Filming the beginning of the video, I got Ellie to sit on the bench so when I edit it, it would cut from the Drama Hall to the park. This would make the video more interesting but adding variety and creativity to the video. For most of the other parts, it was the case of filming her walking and lip syncing so that it completes the video and also matches some of the other parts in my video I have already edited. All that is left to with this footage is upload it and also edit it to finish my music video.

I also took some photos for my music magazine advertisement of Ellie standing in the bandstand. I also asked Ellie to stand with her legs across and with her hands on her mouth and looking up.

I really like the pictures as it reflects the CD Digipak I created as it is similar with Ellie having her hands on her mouth. I also like the way she stands as it looks more realistic and professional with that pose. I also told Ellie to look up so that it would fit in my music magazine advertisement as when I photoshop the picture on my advertisement, it would look as though she is looking up to her name so that it would look more creative and interesting. I especially like the more close up photo of Ellie as it is more focused on her facial expression and make it more eye-catching. I plan to use that photo for my magazine advertisement.

Change of Plan

I have decided to change a bit of my music video as my actress Kayla could not film today and did not know whether she would be free any other times. Also my main actress could not film too as she was late and also busy. I have decided now to only use my main actress in my video as this would be easier as my other actresses might not be free any other time and also would help get my music video done. I plan to film on Monday 23rd with Ellie where I would get all my filming done so I could upload and edit it in school and complete my video.

Cancelled filming today

Today, I was planning on filming in 4th lesson but when I went to meet Ellie, I had to cancel the filming as the weather was dull and cold and it also started to rain. I am planning to finish my filming on Saturday where I would also be filming with all my other actresses too. I am hoping the weather would be good on Saturday so I would be able to film. I am also planning on taking photos for my music magazine advertisement too on Saturday so that when I go school on Monday, I can upload and edit my footage but also finish my ancillary task. I would also stay after school on Monday to finish all my tasks.

Filming and taking photos on Thursday 19th

Today, I have contacted my main actress Ellie to see if she was free today as I plan to film some little parts of my video with only Ellie in so that it would give me more time to concentrate on filming with all my three actresses on Saturday. I also wanted to take photos for my music magazine advertisement as I did not get a chance to so that I could photoshop it and complete all my ancillary tasks. However, when I contacted her she said that she would be busy today and also the rest of this week so we started to figure out when we were both available which would be our free together. The best day for me and Ellie to go out and film and take photos was Thursday as we would have more time. We plan to film and take photos in 4th lesson and lunch on Thursday so that it would give me more time but also when we come back, I would also have 5th and 6th lesson free where I could do some more editing and finish my advertisement. After the Thursday, it would help relieve some pressure off as I would only have to concetrate on filming the parts with with all my actresses in and also focus on editing and finishing my music video.

Another filming cancellation- Sunday 15th

Yesterday, I have informed and contacted about the filming today and we all agreed to meet at the park at 11am as my actresses had to do the filming early in the morning as they would be busy in the afternoon. When me and my other two actresses, Kayla and Chloe met at the park today, we were still waiting for the main actress, Ellie to arrive. However, we tried contacting her but we did not get a reply but afterwards later, she told us that she would be late. My actresses, Kayla and Chloe had to go as the weather was too cold so we told Ellie that we would have to cancel this filming. We then arranged another filming which would be done on Saturday 21st where all my actresses would be all free and we plan to meet at the park at 12pm. Hopefully this time I would be able to film all my footage but I was quite disappointed that I did not get all my filming done as I wanted to finish my music video the first week back at school. However, I am hoping to get it completed the beginning of the second week as after the filming on Staurday 21st, I would be editing in my frees on Monday 23rd and also using Photoshop to get my advertisement finished. I am also planning on to stay after school if I need more time to get it finished.

Planning filming again

I did plan to film on Tuesday 3rd April with all my actresses after when I finished editing in school but when I met up with Ellie, she said that she would not be able to film as she had to go doctors. I then contacted all my actresses and see when they would be available next time to film. It was quite hard as nearly all my actresses were busy and was hard to fit in a time where we could all do some filming. One of my actress, Kayla said that she would be busy all next week so that was a set back but we have come to a date where we would be all free to film which would be on Sunday 15th. I plan to finish filming then but hopefully there would be no more set backs and cancellation on filming. I plan to also take photos of Ellie for my music magazine advertisement.

Today's editing in school- the 2nd verse of the song

I have now started to edit my 2nd verse with only the parts of Ellie in it as I need to film some bits that I would need to put in this verse with all my actresses in it.

For the first lyric line, 'the sun is hot in the sky, just like a giant spotlight', I filmed this shot from a low angle and behind Ellie's head so that I would get the sun in the shot but also my actress in it. I really like this shot as it is really eye-catching but also different and creative.

I then added the spotlight over the top but I changed the opacity of the shot of the spotlight so that it looked as though the spotlight is the sun so it illustrate the lyrics. I then changed back the opacity for the lyric 'spotlight', so that it is emphasized.



For the next line, 'the people follow the sign', I got a shot where I filmed Ellie passing the sign and looking back on it as though the character is following it. I then took a photo of Ellie looking back at he sign to make the lyrics more emphasized. I edited the photo over the top and changed the opacity of it.

I also took photos of Ellie from different positions as though she is skipping along the path and I used these photos to edit to the beat as this would add creativity and variety in my music video. It would also appeal more to the audience as it is something different and new added in my video.

I now need to finish filming and editing the 2nd verse but in order to do that, I would need to film with all three of my actresses.

Today's editing in school- the 1st verse of the song

Today, I decided to go into school in my holidays to upload and also to edit the footage I filmed on Sunday. This would help further my music video but also it would give me more time to refine my music video when I get back to school in lessons.

For the first line, 'Slow it down or make it stop', I edit it using the footage of a close up shot of Ellie walking along the path. I decided to use this shot as when filming this footage, I got Ellie to stop so that it reflects the lyrics. I also think that this shot is really interesting as it is well framed so that it would be more intriguing and eye-catching, making the audience more interested in my video.

I then edited using these shots for the next line of lyrics as they look interesting but also are well-framed, helping to add more creativity and also appeal more to the audience. With these shots, I filmed from behind and got Ellie to walk on the path. I decided to use the element of walking in my music video as it almost represent a journey my character is on as the song is about fear and fright on stage. 

I then added the first shot I used over the top of the other shots I edited and changed the opacity of the shot to make it more interesting and creative. 

For the next line of lyrics, 'to be something I'm not', I first used a shot where I filmed Ellie's legs and feet walking on the path as this shot is different and would add more variety in my music video. I then thought that it need another shot over the top to make it more interesting so I edited a side shot of Ellie over the top and changed the opacity. 

When filming the lyrics, 'I'm a fool out of love', I decided to film from the back and have her turn round from different sides. I decided to use these shots for this lyric so when edited together, it would look as though she would turn to the camera from one side to the other. It would also involve the audience more. 

For the last lines of the lyrics of the 1st verse, I decided to film from the front and have Ellie walk past the camera. I then filmed Ellie from the back and have her walking off. When I edited it together, I cut out the bit where I filmed Ellie's shoulder pasting the camera and put it over the top of the shots I filmed from the front and back of Ellie walking so that it looked more interesting and creative. 

Now that I have finished editing the 1st verse, I now need to start editing my 2nd verse to help further my music video.

Photos I taken for my Music Video

Here are the photos I took on the camera where I could add in different parts in my 2nd verse of my music video. I have taken many photos to get a variety of looks but also give me more choice to pick when editing. I got Ellie to look back on the sign so that it would reflect the lyrics, 'the people follow the sign' in the 2nd verse. I then got Ellie to move from different positions along the path, getting closer to the camera to make it look as though she is skipping along and took photos of her so that it would be edited to the beat with the lyrics of ' and synchronise in time.' I told her to try and do poses to make it look like she is skipping. I also took photos from behind so that it look as though Ellie is getting further away. I have took some good pictures where I would be able to use in my music video.
