Planning filming tomorrow- Sunday 1st April

As I couldn't film with all my actresses on Sunday 25th March, I have planned to film tomorrow Sunday 1st to try and get the footage of the shots with all my actresses done. I decided to do the filming on Sunday as my actresses are usually free and also I could start early with my filming, giving me more time to film. I have informed and contacted all my actresses about filming and they have all said they would be available to film. However, when I contacted my actress, Kayla, she said that she is free on Sunday and would be able to film but she did not know if she would be well enough to film as she was getting a cold. She said that she would contact me early tomorrow to let me know. Even if Kayla would not be able to film tomorrow, I could do more filming with Ellie as they are still some parts of footage left to film where I only need Ellie in. This would help with my time management as I would be getting more footage filmed, helping to further my music video. I have also decided to film tomorrow as I am planning on going in school Tuesday 3rd to upload my footage filmed and do some more editing so it would give me more time to review all my work when I get back to school and in the lesson.

Editing the footage I filmed in the Drama Hall

Here, I have started to edit the footage I filmed in the Drama Hall which would go at the start and the end of the video. I also filmed the spotlight to reflect the lyrics in the 2nd verse.

For the beginning, I decided to open the video in the Drama Hall so that it looks as though it is a start of a show which reflects the song. I got Ellie to sit on the chair in the spotlight and have her head down so when the music starts, I would have her turning adn facing towards the camera. This would make the video more interesting and would also be more effective as it would be an impact for the opening. I also slowed it down so that the timing was right and also added a 'dip to colour dissolve' effect at the start so it made it more of an opening and makes it more creative.

For the ending of the last line 'just enjoy the show', I filmed a close up of Ellie lip syncing then I slowly zoomed out to emphasize the ending of the video. It also marks as the end of the perfomance as the whole of the video is like a perfomance, hence the title of the song 'The Show.' I then faded it out so it was more of a finish.

I also added the shot of the spotlight I filmed to the 2nd verse where the lyrics mention about the spotlight.

I have now added the start and the ending shots of the music video, all that is left is to do is edit the middle parts of the video.

Yesterday's filming in the Drama Hall

After school, I met up with Ellie as we planned to film in the Drama Hall after school with the spotlight as it was free. She told me that after school she had to go see a teacher but it would be quite quick so she can film afterwards. She also told me that she left her locker key at home as her outfit was still in the locker so we had to go back to Ellie's house to get it. After Ellie saw her teacher, we went back to her house to get her key which did not take long to get there as her house is near school and took about 5 minutes to walk there which was an advantage, giving me more time to film. When we got back to school, Ellie changed into her outfit and we went to the Drama Hall. The Drama teacher was in there which was good and helped us put the spotlight on.

I then filmed Ellie sitting on a chair which would go at the beginning of the song where the lyrics go, 'I'm just a little bit' so it is like a start of a performance. I then plan to film Ellie in the park bench sitting in the middle of my other two actresses to match the lyrics of 'caught in the middle'. With the scene of the Drama Hall first and then cutting to the park bench, makes it more interesting and would draw in the audience more as they would not know what to expect. When filming Ellie on the chair in the Drama Hall, I got her looking down then looking up to the camera as I plan to start the music video of my actress looking down and when the song starts, I will have her looking up to the camera so she is more connected with the audience. Filming this, took many attempts, as when looking back at the footage, she looked really nervous. I also filmed a range of shots with her turning to the camera slowly and also quickly so when editing, I can see which shots would work best.

After filming the shots for the first part of the song, I then had to film the end part of the video in the Drama Hall so that it looks as though it is the end of the performance. I had her lip syncing the lines, 'just enjoy the show' and I filmed a close up shot of her face as I plan to edit it so that when filming in the park, I would also film a close up of her face, lip syncing these lines so that it would cut back easily to the Drama Hall for the ending. I then zoomed out of the shot so that it looked more of an ending and made the video more interesting.

I then filmed the spotlight for the 2nd verse of the song where it made a reference to the spotlight. I plan to edit shots over the top of the spotlight so it would make it more creative.

I have now uploaded the footage onto my Mac so that I would be ready to edit in the lesson.

Postponed Filming

I had to cancel filming yesterday, Wednesday 28th as I came back Kettering about 5:30pm which I was going to plan to film then but when I informed my main actress about filming, she said that she was going to be busy and would not be able to film. I have talked to Ellie about filming today because I was going to plan to film my 1st verse of the song today in the 4th lesson and lunch but she said that she would be busy with her coursework. However, she has said that she would be able to film after school in the Drama Hall. As I am not going to be able to finish my music video this week, I am planning to film in the Easter holidays which would give me more time to film. I also plan to come in school in the holidays to upload my footage and finish editing so I can complete my music video. I would also also need to take photos of Ellie for my music magazine advertisement so I can finish the advert too.

Cancelled filming yesterday

I had to cancel filming yesterday, Monday 26th as my actress Ellie was not in school so I was not able to film as her outfit was still in her locker. I have catched up with Ellie today in school about filming and have sorted out the next filming dates. I have asked Ellie if she was free tomorrow on Wednesday as it is the only day that all my actresses was free to film. Even though I am free around about 5:00pm or 6:00pm tomorrow it is still good for filming as it is still bright. Ellie has told me that she would be free then at that time but I would not know for sure when I am free so I would need to ring all the actresses and meet them at the park when we are all free. On Wednesday, I am planning on just filming the parts where I would need all my actresses in so it would give me more time to film these parts. I am then planning on filming on Thursday in school in 4th lesson with Ellie so that it would give me more time as after 4th lesson, I would also have lunch to film. Also, I would film after school on Thursday in the Drama Hall and after all these filming sessions, I would be finished with filming all the footage I need. I am hoping that it would go to plan so I would be able to get my music video finished this week.

Postponing filming today- 25th March

Today, I had to cancel filming even though all my actresses were free and ready to film but my main actress, Ellie left her outfit in school in her locker after we finished filming on Thursday and forgot to take the outfit home. This means that I would be a little bit behind with my music video but I am planning to reschedule all my filming dates and inform all my actresses about the rearranged dates. I have asked all my actresses when they were free and one of my actress, Chloe is only free next week on Wednesday and Thursday but my other actress, Kayla would be best free in the weekend but she can work around her times when she is free after college and her placement work which would be Wednesday. I then asked Ellie and she said that she was free everyday next week except Tuesday. I am planning to film with Ellie on Monday 26th so that I would get the parts that I only need Ellie in filmed first which would save more time when I film the parts with all my actresses in it.

Next filming dates

I have planned to film on Sunday 25th to film the 1st and 2nd verse of my music video. As I need all my actresses for filming, I have contacted and informed them all about filming on Sunday and they all said that they would be available to film. I have planned to meet Ellie at the park at 11:00am so that we could film the 1st verse where I would only need Ellie and then I plan to meet my other two actresses, Chloe and Kayla, at 11:30am to do the second verse. By following this plan, it would help me with my time as I would have more time to film and also with be good with my time management. With my other two actresses, I would be filming the first part of the song which is the first of the chorus. I would be filming all three of my actresses sitting on the bench but with Ellie in the middle to portray the first line of the song, 'I'm just a little bit caught in the middle.' I would then film many different shots such as the sides of the bench with them sitting on it, also close up shots of her feet and mid shots of just Ellie sitting on the bench. This would help enhance the feelings of being lost and confused.

 For the first verse, I plan to film close up shots of Ellie's feet walking which would be edited at the start of the 1st verse. I would also film many shots of Ellie's feet to get a variety of shots to edit with. I would then film Ellie walking on the path usign different shots from the back, the side and the front. This would give me more footage to edit with so I would be able to see which works best for my music video.

For the second verse, I plan to take photos of Ellie skipping along the path so when I edit these to the second verse, it would cut to the beat but also add more creativity as it is different than just editing with footage filmed. It would also add more interest to the audience as it is something different and quirky.

After filming on Sunday, I would only have to film in the Drama Hall left and I plan to film on Thursday 29th after school. I have asked a Drama teacher to see when the Drama Hall is free and she told me that Wednesday, Thursday and Friday after school is free. This is good as I plan to film on Thursday and I have asked my actress, Ellie if she was free and she said that she would be able to film Thursday after school.


After these filming sessions, I would be finished in filming all my footage and all that would be left to do is edit all these footage then my music video would be complete.

Editing the last chorus of the video

After uploading the footage I filmed on Thursday 22nd, I have now started to edit the footage into my music video for the last chorus of the video.

For the first line of 'I'm just a little bit caught in the middle', I filmed a shot of Ellie in a field and got her to walk quite slowly and to lip sync the lines. I really like this shot as it is simple but also is differnet to my other shots in my music video as it is the one that portrays my artist and is still and just only lip syncing.

For the next line of 'life is a maze...', I filmed a close up shot of Ellie lip syncing the lines and when I filmed this shot, I filmed around her and got her to face the camera while lip synicng so she had to move her head around. I like this shot as it is creative but it also seem as though the artist is involving the audience, making the video more intriguing and capturing. 

For the next line 'I don't know why', I filmed Ellie from the back walking off to reflect the mood of the lyrics so that it is more meaningful.

For the lyrics of 'I'm just a little girl lost in a moment', I filmed Ellie spinning around to reflect that nature of a little girl having fun. I also put another shot of Ellie spinning around over the top of the other and changed the opacity so that it looked more creative and quite effective. I also used this effect and the spinning around shots for the lyrics, 'I can't figure it out' as it reflects the feeling of confusion and lost.  

For the last line of the chorus, 'it's bringing me down I know, I've got to let it go', I used this shot and filmed it from the behind of Ellie skipping across the field. I also got her to turn around to face the camera to keep the audience involved. I then reversed the shot and increased the speed so that it would make the video more effective as it would contrast the music as the music then would seem more dragged and slower.

The part left to edit and film in this last chorus is the line 'I'm so scared but I don't show it.' I am planning to film Ellie lip syncing the line and have different cuts from a long shot to a mid shot and then a close up of her lips. This would help add more interest and creativity as it is something different and more eye-catching. 

Music Channel for my Music Video

I have now started to think about the music channel that I want my music video to appear on. I have started to research different music channels that I feel is suitable for the artist Lenka and the genre of the song to be on. I have thought of the music channels of 4Music, Viva and The Box.

Here, I have done some more research on these music channels to get more information about the channel and to see if it is suitable for my music video to appear on:

4Music
4Music is a music and entertainment channel that is available on Freeview, Virgin Media, Sky and Smallworld Cable. This means that this music channel is available for a wider audience so that more people can view my music video, getting more interests and attention to my video. The music channel replaced The Hits and was launched on 15 August 2008.

I feel that 4Music would be suitable for my artist and my music video to appear on as 4Music has a wide variety of different genres on the channel, meaning my artist, folk pop genre would be suitable on the channel. I also feel that this music channel is quite popular so that more audience would watch more videos and my video would be viewed more and would help the promotional aspect.

Viva



 Viva is a music video and entertainment channel in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The channel was officially launched on 26 October 2009 by Alexandra Burke, with an exclusive live performance of her single "Bad Boys". The channel replaced TMF. The channel is owned by Viacom International Media Networks Europe and was originally a German channel. It is also the first channel from MTV that is on Freeview.

I feel that Viva would also be suitable for my artist and my music video to appear on as Viva conveys a quirky feel and image of the music channel which would suit my artist as she also portrays a quicky image. I also feel that having the music channel being quite quirky and different would help the promotion of my artist and the video as the channel and the artist is quite similar and would help get the right audience to view the video.

 The Box

The Box is a television channel in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The channel is one of many within the Box Television network, a joint venture between Channel Four Television Corporation and Bauer Group. The channel mainly broadcasts music videos, although it also features other music-related programming from 4Music.

I feel that my artist and the music video would be suitable to appear on the Box music channel as the music channel has also a variety of genres. I also feel that channel is also quite different and quite quirky which reflect my artist and the genre of folk-pop.

The music channel that I chosen for my music video to appear on is 4music as the music channel best suits my artist as the chaanel plays a wide variety of music videos from different genres. I also chose 4music as it is also quite a popular music channel and would help with my promotional aspect of my music video as many people would watch the channel especially my target audience. However, if my music video was on Scuzz, a rock music channel, it would not be suitable as my target audience would not watch the channel and it would not make sense due to the different genres. Overall, 4music is the most suitable channel for my artist and the music video to appear on.

Yesterday's filming- Thursday 22nd

Yesterday, I did some filming in the park with Ellie in school in 4th and 6th lesson. However, I did not do much filming but only filming for the last chorus of the video due to the lack of time I had yesterday and also the rush of coming back to school. However, I have got some footage filmed that I can use to edit with for the last chorus in my music video. It was also a good day to film as the weather was hot which helped with the filming. For the first part of the chorus, I had Ellie walking in the field and lip syncing the lines with the use of a long shot. With the lines of 'life is a maze and love is a riddle', I decided to film circling Ellie to add different shots and variety to my music video but also it focused more on her face and expressions. This made it more interesting and capturing. For the last line of this first part of the chorus with 'I don't know why', I filmed Ellie from the back walking off on the field to convey her confusion. For the second part of the chorus, I got a close up shot of Ellie lip syncing the first line, 'I'm just a little girl' which I do not think I am planning to use as I feel that it did not look as good. For the line, 'lost in a middle', I filmed Ellie spinning around to enhance the feeling of being lost which took many attempts to film. I also filmed her from the back skipping away, which would go at the end of the chorus, which was quite hard to capture as she was skipping quite fast, making it hard to film.
Today, I uploaded the footage on the Mac and found that it was not a lot of footage but the footage uploaded are still useable and would help me with editing. Even though it was not a lot of footage, the filming was quite good and the footage is enough to be edited to the last chorus of the song to help further my progress of my music video.

Plan to film on Thursday

My actress today have now informed me that she would not be able to film after school on Thursday but we worked out our frees in school that we have together and would be able to go out and film in the park. We have 4th and 6th lesson free together that we could got out and film and also at lunch to give us more time to film and get some more footage. This would give me at least 2 hours to film so there is a lot of time to film quite a lot of footage and help get my editing done to finish my music video. After filming on Thursday, I plan to stay after school on Thursday in the media room to upload all my footage filmed and start editing so it would help further more on my editing on my Music Video.

Canceling filming on Monday 19th

I had to cancel the filming session on Monday 19th as I was ill on Monday and could not film. I had informed my actress about the cancellation of the filming and also I have informed her that I would need to film later this week on Thursday 22nd. I have chosen to film on Thursday as I am free the most but I would need to ask Ellie and see if she is also available to film.

Planning filming on Monday 19th

As I need to finish my filming, I have decided to plan my filming at the beginning of next week on Monday 19th. I have asked my actress, Ellie if she was free and she said that she would be available to film after school on Monday. In this filming session on Monday, I am planning to film the 1st verse of the song and also the chorus near the end of the song. I am also planning to film other parts of the song that needs filling and also taking photos for my Music Magazine advertisement. After this filming session, I would only need to film the shots in the Drama Hall and also the 2nd Verse.

Delay in filming

This week I had to postpone my filming as my actress Ellie was still unwell due to her injuries and was not fit enough to do filming. I am planning on filming next week with Ellie to try and get some filming done so I would have some footage to edit with to further my music video. I would also need her one day after school to film in the Drama Hall. These footage filmed in the Drama Hall would go at the start and also at the end of the video. I would also need my other two actresses and Ellie one day to finish filming other parts of my music video. After then, I would have all my footage filmed ready to edit with to complete my music video. I am hoping that Ellie would be well enough to do filming next week so I would be able to get all the footage I need to further my music video.

Cancelling filming on Sunday 11th

On Friday, I informed my actress about filming on Sunday and she said that she would be able to film as she would be free. However, when I contracted her again today about meeting her on Sunday, she said that she would have to cancel the filming due to some injuries that occured on Friday and would not be able to film. However, she has told me that she would be able to after a few days of rest so I am hoping that she would be fit and ready to film again soon next week. I feel that it has not affected my music video as I have only small parts left to film and also that I am becoming more confident and adapted to editing on Final Cut, I feel that I would be able to finish my music video this half term.

Planning filming on Sunday 11th

As I have now finished editing the choruses of my song, I now need to film the other parts left in my music video. I am planning on filming on Sunday 11th as the weather should be nice and also I would have more time to film. I am hoping to film the 1st verse and also a part near the end of the song. This would give me more footage to edit with and also help to futher the progress of my music video. As I only need my actress, Ellie, it means that it would be easier to film as she is comforatble with filming now and also I would get more filming doen as it is easy to direct her. I am also planning on taking photos for my Music Magazine advertisement as I only need an image of Ellie to complete the advertisement. After filming on Sunday, I would only need to film the beginning part of the song and the second verse left which I would need my other two actresses as well as Ellie. I would also need to film Ellie in the Drama Hall which would go at the start and also at the end of the music video. I am hoping to complete my music video soon as I  know which parts to film for my video and I also know what to film, helping to speed up my progress to complete my music video.

Editing shots over the top

On the second chorus, the chorus ends with the shot of the slow motion of Ellie swinging. I planned on editing some other shots over the top of that shot to add more variety in my music video and make it more creative to appeal and interest the audience.

 

I chose this shot of Ellie on the swings as it is differnet and also quite well framed, making my video more interesting. I then put the shot on top of the other shot where I thought it was the best to placed. Now that the shot is on top, I would now need to change the opacity of the shot so that both shots would be seen and almost merged together.

To change the opacity of the shot, I went on the top bar on the middle screen and clicked on 'motion'. I then went on the opacity option and altered the percentage till it was right and that both shots were merged together and seen. I really like this effect as it makes it look quite edgy and really quirky, making my video mroe interesting and exciting.

When I reviewed the shot I edited, I felt that the change and the cut of the shot was too jumpy and not smooth. To make the change more smooth, I added the transition effect of the 'cross dissolve' at the end of the shot that was on top. This made it look more refined and more flowing. 

I then slowed down the shot by going on 'modify' which is at the top of the option bar. I then altered the speed percentage to 60% to slow the shot down. I decided to slow the shot down as when I watched it back, it did not really come together as one shot was in normal speed and the other was in slow motion. I felt that slowing the shot down captured the moment more and relfects the lyrics, making it more intriguing and captivating.

I decided to add another shot as the part is quite big and needed another shot to make it more interesting. I used the side shot of Ellie on the swings as I thought this shot is really creative and I like how Ellie is acting as she looks up which makes her behaviour more realistic and also really fascinating.

Like the other shot, I changed the opacity and also slowed it down. This makes it more interesting but also that it helps merge both shots together, making the video more interesting and capturing.

I then added the 'cross dissolve' transition effect to make it more refined but also that it creates that smooth cut and change from one shot to the other.

 

Now that I have finished editing more to the chorus, all that is left to do is film more so that I can edit more to the other parts of the music video. This would help further my progress to completing my music video.

Editing more on the second chorus

Today, I added and edited more on the second chorus as the last line 'and just enjoy the show' drags on and the speed of the music slows down. 

I decided to add the low angle shot of Ellie swinging on the swings as I really like this shot as it is interesting and also well framed, making the shot more creative and quirky looking. Even though it looks quite dark, I feel that it juxtaposes to the other shots, making it stand out more.

As the speed of the music slows down with the last line of the lyrics, 'and just enjoy the show' drags, I decided to slow the shot down. I went on 'modify' on the top bar and clicked on the option of 'speed'. I then altered the speed to 60%, the speed that fitted with the music and lyrics. 

I really like the effect of the swing swinging slowly as it looks really interesting and quirky. It also reflects the music and the lyrics, making it more meaningful and creative.

After adding the shot of Ellie swinging in slow motion, I decided to add the transition of the 'cross dissolve' to make the change and cut from the last shot to this shot smoother so that it does not jump and is not a sharp cut or change. This helps to make it more refined and also more interesting and intriguing.

I am also going to add more shots over this shot of Ellie to make it more interesting and also more creative. In order to do this, I would need to change the opacity of the shots so both shots would merge together and are seen on the screen. This would help add more variety to my music video, making it more appealing and striking. This would interest the audience as it is different and unique lookign due to the opacity effect, making the audience more involved and captivated by the video.
